I enjoyed reading this article and was stunned to realize that old Rip would have been totally at home in my classrom! (That is one of the main reasons why I am taking this class - so I don't have to rely on chalk and enthusiasm so much anymore). We are a big country and slow to change, but the innovation is out there. I agree that we need to teach students how to think and analyze, not just memorize. As a foreign language teacher, I have always known the value of being sensitive to another culture and of being conversant in different languages. But we teachers need to get better at the "new" language-computers-to speak our students' language, and also to help them in becoming better global citizens.
